In response to David Lepper (Letters, October 30), I seem to have touched a raw nerve.

I understand his anger at my pointing out his record but that is the duty of myself and my Conservative colleagues.

Voters in Brighton Pavilion need to know he voted against a Conservative motion which said the post office card account "should be offered as an option to customers".

The same motion also called upon the Government "to ensure there is a level playing field in the marketing, promotion and advertising of the banking options from all Government departments and agencies, including the Department for Work and Pensions, the Inland Revenue and the Veterans Agency".

This was exactly the simplification and better advertising Mr Lepper was calling for.

Yet he voted for a Labour amendment which stated "Direct Payment is central to the future of a successful modern Post Office."

By his voting record, Mr Lepper has proved he rates party loyalty higher than the needs of his constituents.

It is obvious Mr Lepper and his colleagues are making life very difficult for pensioners and people on benefits.
