Cricket star Adam Hollioake completed the first phase of his 2,000-mile journey in Sussex today.

The Surrey all-rounder walked from Hurstpierpoint to Brighton Marina to end a 594-mile hike from Edinburgh.

Hollioake is attempting to walk, cycle and row from Scotland to Morocco in the space of two months in memory of his late brother, Ben, who was killed in a car accident last year.

He is being accompanied by other fund-raisers, including Brighton-based boxer Scott Welch.

The Surrey all-rounder has pledged to devote the next five years raising money for the Ben Hollioake Fund and the charity Children's Hospice Service (CHASE).

The UK leg of the journey has already raised £44,000 but Hollioake hopes the figure will be a lot higher once he completes his epic journey.

He said: "I have really enjoyed it so far and the support we have been receiving from people has been fantastic. It is a great experience but the point of it is not just to see if I can do it, it is to raise as much money as we can.

"It has been very successful so far and hopefully that will continue into the next phase, which will go all the way through France and across Spain."

Hollioake now plans to cycle from Dieppe to Gibraltar, before attempting to reach Tangier by boat by November 25.

He said: "I have not done any training for it but I am not worried because it is more of a mind challenge.

"The early part of the walk was hard but you soon get used to it and hopefully it will be the same with the rest of the trip."
