Mike Weatherley (Letters, October 28) is wrong to say people will be prevented from collecting their pension and benefits from a post office if they wish.

The new Post Office Card Account gives people weekly access to their money over the counter at the post office.

To suggest this service is not available not only spreads unnecessary alarm but is actually harmful to the business of our sub post offices.

In the House of Commons in October 2002, I called for that scheme to be better advertised and simplified (this was in support of a campaign by sub postmasters and mistresses).

It is disgraceful that Mr Weatherley attempts to make cheap and inaccurate party political points when what we should be doing is uniting in the campaign to save our post offices.
