World No. 1 Mark Williams will be the man to beat when top class snooker returns to Brighton next month.

The Welshman has been in unstoppable form of late and continued his amazing run of success by beating John Higgins in the final of the LG Cup on Sunday.

Higgins beat Williams the last time a major tournament was held in Brighton when he lifted the Champions Cup in 2001 but he knows he has his work cut out to repeat that feat in the British Open, which starts at the Brighton Centre on November 8.

"Mark is playing to a terrifically high standard when it comes to the pressure games," said Higgins, who scored a 147 maximum break in Sunday's final.

"He is the one we are all chasing."

An all-star line up including Ronnie O'Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty, Paul Hunter, Jimmy White and Steve Davis will flock to the Brighton Centre to see if they can stop Williams in his tracks.

But the world champion goes into the competition, which is the second round of the new LG Electronics Tour, full of confidence that he can extend his winning streak.

"Someone will have to play out of their skin to beat me.

"If I can play like I did on Sunday again I am going to be tough to beat," said Williams, who now holds the grand slam of BBC TV covered events - a feat previously achieved only by Hendry and Davis.

Defending champion Hunter lifted the British Open in Telford last year by beating Ian McCulloch in the final and will be looking to repeat that success in front of the Sky TV cameras next month.

Prize money of £450,000 will be up for grabs at the Brighton Centre with the final taking place on Sunday November 16. The winner will also pick up 100 points toward the LG Tour prize of £50,000.

Tickets are on sale now starting at £5 for adults (£2.50 concessions) and rising to £15 (£12 concessions) for the final. For details call the box office on 0870 9009100.
