Jake Robinson is still pinching himself after taking just half-an-hour to make Albion history.

The sub became the Seagulls' youngest ever scorer in last night's LDV Vans Trophy victory against Conference strugglers Forest Green Rovers at Withdean.

Robinson's 88th-minute strike on his home debut sealed a 2-0 win in the southern section first round tie.

The wonder kid, dubbed the 'Denton Destroyer' by fans, is not 17 until next week.

Albion's previous youngest scorer was Mick Conway, aged 17 and 48 days.

Robinson said: "It hasn't really sunk in but it's a great feeling. I still can't really believe it.

"I did not expect there to be so many fans and to do it in front of them was a great experience as well."

A crowd of almost 4,000 saw Robinson brought on after 57 minutes in place of Leon Knight, who opened the scoring in the first half with his 11th of the season.

Caretaker manager Bob Booker said: "I was pleased for Jake coming on and getting a goal. We know the boy has talent and long may it continue.

"I was also pleased for Leon Knight to continue scoring. I played a strong team and all the time you are scoring that breeds success."

Albion have now won two matches in three days under Booker without letting a goal in.

It strengthens his case to be given the job permanently following Steve Coppell's switch to Reading.

"It was always going to be a difficult game," Booker said.

"They made it very hard for us at times with ten men behind the ball, which is frustrating.

"You have to be patient and disciplined, because they can still hit you on the break, so I was really pleased with the players' attitude.

"It was just about winning another game and keeping the momentum going.

"We went about our business in a professional way.

"These games can be banana skins but we came through it with flying colours."

Captain Danny Cullip was left out to rest a calf injury but he will be fit for Saturday's south coast derby at Bournemouth.
