It's too late now but the complete cure for our traffic problems was probably in the hands of Saddam Hussein, who we have now sacked.

He would have been successful in his invasion of Kuwait had the Americans not stopped him and would probably then have invaded Saudi Arabia which would have given him control of Mid-East oil.

Had he turned the oil tap off, all our cars would simply have been scrap iron and traffic jams would be a thing of the past.

Unfortunately trucks, buses, trains, planes and ships would also have ended up as scrap so maybe it was a good thing we got rid of him.

If Bush and Blair had explained this angle a bit better to their populations, I think their popularity ratings would be considerably higher as not many of us want to go back to the steam engine and bicycle.
