Why is everyone so shocked at the rates for parking at the new Tesco store in Hove?

What do they expect? Supermarkets aim for one-stop shopping. Surely those who think that they will rejuvenate neighbouring shopping streets are being naive?

That was never the intention of the supermarket, though it may have been wishful thinking by planners and councillors.

It will be the same story at Sainsbury's on the Brighton station site - 90 minutes free parking after spending £5 at the store, followed by punitive rates.

Only an Olympic runner could spend any useful time at the London Road shops.
