Once again the critics are at work over the appearance of the new Jubilee Street library as they were over the proposals for the previous library a decade ago which led to a disastrous delay.

I wonder how many of these critics use a library. If they did, I believe they would be more concerned about its inside than its outside.

As one who does use a library regularly, I'm more concerned with about its user-friendliness than its appearance to passers-by.

There are a number of functional aspects which concern me and, I believe, the silent majority of library users.

By all means, raise questions about the new building but let them be more about the issues which concern library users themselves such as being able to examine books without being jostled and having plenty of shelves so that so many don't have to be dumped in the store rooms.

And what about those who will have to work in it? As for the reference section ...
