At the Liberal Democrat Conference there was much talk about helping pensioners but there was complete silence on the fact the Chancellor is proposing to change the basis of Retail Price Indices.
The present Index is running about three per cent per annum and, if this is the figure for September, pensions will rise by this amount next April.
However, the Chancellor is proposing to change to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices and, if this figure is applied, the figure will be about 1.3 per cent and pensions will rise at this figure.
Why didn't the Lib Dems mention this at their conference?
Do they not understand it or are they backing the Chancellor?
Perhaps Councillor Jenny Barnard-Langston can tell us why this and its implications for pensioners were not discussed?
Perhaps the city's three Labour MPs can also give their views?
