Fleet Street might have been the obvious spot for The Argus on the Brighton Monopoly board, which is due to be launched next month.

But we have been given a home on the Community Chest space in the new version of the game.

Brighton and Hove is gradually taking shape on the board, which is due to be launched on October 16 by a Roedean schoolgirl whose name is being kept secret until the day.

The school was chosen to take part because it features in the game, occupying a yellow square with a price of £280.

Sussex County Cricket Club also appears, occupying a pink square worth £160.

Roedean headteacher Carolyn Shaw said: "The school takes over from Piccadilly - fitting as both are famous, vibrant and absolutely bursting with life.

"The girls are great fans of Monopoly and are thrilled to find they are part of the new Brighton and Hove edition. With six boarding houses within Roedean's grounds, this will be a very popular square to own."

The limited edition game, which is identical in sprit and shape to the original Monopoly, features 27 of the city's landmarks.

Maker Winning Moves UK has the only licence from Monopoly owners Hasbro to reproduce the game.

It is yet to be revealed whether Palace Pier, the Royal Pavilion, The Lanes or The Grand hotel will land the top spot of Mayfair.

The makers have used a Pop Idol-style voting system to decide which parts of the city should feature on the board.

They have promised if either Lancing contestant Chris Hide or Hove contestant Wesu Wallace win the Pop Idol TV contest, or come second, they will give the singer ten free copies of the game to give to charity.

If the pair come first and second they will supply 25 games each and if Wesu comes first or second when he performs in front of the judges tonight, they will donate five games.

People who live in the city and have a birthday on October 16 are invited to enter a competition to win a game. The name pulled out of the giant Monopoly hat will get one of the first boards to roll off the presses.

Monopoly spokesman Graham Barnes said: "The board will reflect the essence and spirit of Brighton and Hove - and popular feeling among the public.

"It's proving popular before even a copy has been sold. The new game has attracted record advance sales from county retailers. It will make a great Christmas present."
