Over the years, and particularly in recent times, there have been many nasty confrontations between the hunting fraternity and hunt saboteurs and others who oppose the "sport".

When such cases have come to court, aggrieved hunt opponents have often been shocked at the result, suspecting the magistrates have a bias in favour of hunting.

Such suspicions are now reinforced with the report that, in the event of a hunt ban, some magistrates plan to resign rather than have to try anybody hunting illegally.

One hunting magistrate from Rugerley says he intends to continue hunting despite the law.

How many hunt saboteurs expecting to receive justice have had their cases tried by a pro-hunting magistrate who is secretly prepared to hold the law in such contempt?

The Lord Chancellor should root them out and sack them.
