A major recruitment drive for jobs in the NHS is being held tomorrow.

During NHS Job Shop Day, staff and recruitment advisers from the Adur, Arun and Worthing Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS Trust will be at the Montague Centre, Liverpool Gardens, Worthing, to discuss vacancies.

The event, from 10am to 5pm, will also offer information and advice about training, retraining and the benefits of becoming an NHS employee.

Philippa Spicer, director of human resources for the PCT and the hospitals, said: "Anyone looking for work, a new career or perhaps returning to work in the NHS should visit a job shop.

"Virtually any job you can think of, you can do in the NHS.

"We need more nurses and therapists but we also need vital support staff, such as secretaries, accountants and IT staff."

Some new members of staff at the PCT explained the reasons behind their career moves.

Health activist Ponnie Dudley, who has taken a newly created job-share post, is developing a community-based training programme to help people become heath activists within their communities.

She said: "I only wanted to work part-time but I wanted something which was stimulating and utilised my skills while offering me the chance to learn new ones.

"The PCT offered a flexible working arrangement that suited me down to the ground."

Administrative assistant Tracey Hodder said: "I joined a few months ago when my three children were starting school and playschool, which gave me the time to return to work.

"The aspects of the job that attracted me were the fact it was local, it had hours to suit my needs and was extremely varied."
