A man's ear was cut off when he was hit with a broken bottle.
The victim was trying to break up a fight between two women when another man lunged at him with the bottle.
The top of the victim's ear was sliced off and blood vessels in his neck were also severed.
He underwent surgery at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, yesterday to have the ear reattached.
The victim, from Uckfield, was enjoying a night out when he was attacked outside the Joint nightclub in West Street, Brighton, in the early hours of Sunday.
