A property developer was said to be improving in hospital today after his classic car overturned during a racing festival.
Rupert Avon, 38, of High Street, Steyning, was driving a C-type Jaguar during a practice session on Friday for the Goodwood Revival Festival when his car spun off the track at Madgwick Corner.
He was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester and was treated for critical head and chest injuries before being transferred to Southampton Hospital.
A spokesman for Southampton Hospital said: "He continues to be in a stable condition and is improving slightly."
The race was one of about 14 which took place over the festival weekend, featuring cars from the Forties, Fifties and Sixties.
Mr Avon is the son of Humphrey Avon, who developed the Montague Centre shopping precinct in Worthing.
