Employers who do not treat their staff properly have been given a warning as a result of a Brighton industrial tribunal.

Nightclub worker Jeanette Hobden had to leave her job at the Creation club in West Street after she was injured when trying to construct a makeshift desk to rest her computer on from cardboard boxes.

She also developed tennis elbow after having to swing heavy bags of coins into a poorly-designed safe.

Not only has she won but she has been awarded the considerable sum of £23,907.

It's clear that her employees had little regard for the working condition of one of their most loyal and hard-working members of staff.

They did not listen for ages to her concerns and when she won her case, they appealed.

Now First Leisure will have to pay both financially and through a large dose of highly unwelcome publicity.

Mrs Hobden deserves congratulations for her tenacity and so does the Citizens' Advice Bureau for fighting her case.
