The mystery maker of a fake speed camera is the talk of his village and the scourge of drivers but his identity remains a secret.

The man behind the wooden "camera", put up to slow down traffic heading into Cowfold, near Horsham, has pledged to continue his campaign against unruly motorists.

Last week we reported how the replica had appeared on the A272.

Residents seemed to be in the dark about the schemer's identity But in an email to us the undercover camerasmith, who signs off as Yellbox, claimed many villagers were in on the act.

And he said there were another five boxes waiting in the sidelines.

He said he had come up with the idea after a celebrity friend had a crash leaving his house.

Glamour girl Jordan had an accident in July leaving a friend's house in Cowfold. She was heading back to her home on the outskirts of Brighton when her new £70,000 Mercedes sports car was in collision with a lorry.

It happened as she was reversing into the road. She suffered a stiff neck but was otherwise unhurt.

Yellbox said: "I have had a dozen near-misses leaving my drive. It will probably cost a life before they put up a camera.

"I find it ironic that the Cowfold councillor says we have a problem, yet West Sussex County Council knows nothing about it."

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: "We'd much rather this resident contacted our highways department if he has a particular concern about speeding in the area.

"The Speed Cameras Partnership locates areas which need cameras. If there is one that is unexpected or not signposted, it can cause accidents so it is an issue which requires careful thought."
