People living in Arundel are squaring up for a second battle over plans for a new radio transmitter on the town's historic castle.
Neighbours were still celebrating victory in a fight to stop a new 15m Tetra radio mast being put up at Arundel Police Station when O2 Airwave submitted plans for a mast at Arundel Castle.
A council spokesman said the application would be determined by the Government Office for the South East because the castle was a Grade 1 Listed building.
Arundel district councillor Paul Dendle said this morning that people living in the historic town were ready to do battle for a second time.
He said: "We're very pleased with the decision about the mast at the police station. We were concerned about possible health risks and it would have obscured the beautiful views of Arundel.
"I'd say 99.9 per cent of residents are against these masts and we will be objecting to this second application as well."
Spokesman for O2 Airwave Jim Stevenson said the mast at Arundel Castle would be disguised to blend in with its surroundings.
He said: "It will be smaller and disguised to look like part of the castle. We contend that the masts are safe."
