Secondary school pupils could soon have new changing rooms.

Permission is being sought for 90-person changing room facilities at The Angmering School in Station Road, Angmering.

The changing area would be built to the west of the existing school buildings, adjacent to its playing fields.

But the plans have caused concern among Angmering parish councillors who say thought should also be given to more parking at the school.

They say they do not wish to see an increase in off-road parking from people using the new facilities.

But a report to Arun District Council's development control meeting says: "The parish council's objection is noted. However, the applicant has stated that any additional use of the site will be outside of school hours when the existing 89-space school car park will be empty.

"Therefore, ample vehicle parking is provided and it is considered that this proposal will not exacerbate any existing problems within the surrounding residential area."

It went on to say: "The design of the proposal is considered to be of a high quality that reflects the existing surrounding school buildings and the character of the surrounding area.

"It is not considered that this proposal would detrimentally impact upon the residential amenities of any neighbouring property by way of overshadowing, overbearing effect, loss of privacy or overlooking."

Councillors meet on Wednesday to discuss the school's plan and are being recommended to raise no objection.
