Firefighters had their work cut out when two fires started in the early hours of Friday morning in Worthing town centre.
It is thought the incidents could have been acts of vandalism by the same gang of children.
A crew from Worthing was first called out after 1am to a blaze in a skip full of wood in Wenban Road.
A spokesman for Worthing fire station said: "We had to empty the entire skip, damp it down and put it all back.
"It's probably kids just mucking about. They like to see a good fire going when they are that age."
Ten minutes later the firefighters dealt with a small bin fire behind the town hall in Chapel Road.
The spokesman said: "I'm wondering if it was the same kids."
