Findon are taking the professional approach to ensure their dreams of a remarkable league and cup double become reality.

The reigning champions remain just four points behind division one leaders Arundel after a home draw against Broadwater on Saturday.

They then beat Buckinghamshire side Dinton by 50 runs at Long Furlong the next day in the quarter-finals of the National Village Knockout to leave them just one game away from a place in the final at Lord's.

Findon skipper Nigel Waller believes his sides' success is thanks to the professional touch they have added to their pre-match preparations this season.

He said: "It is unbelievable to say we are now in the semi-finals and we just seem to keep going. We have changed things around a bit in the way we prepare for games and I think that has had an effect.

"In the last couple of weeks the whole team has met up early in the morning before the game. We have a drink, not an alcoholic one, and then go in the nets for a while before we play. It is a more professional approach and it seems to be working."

Findon were in control in the league game against Broadwater after declaring on 200-8 thanks to 54 from John Rogers and contributions from Tony Kingsbury (37) and Paul O'Sullivan (30). But Broadwater were in a stubborn mood and held on to reach 111-8 in reply. Joe Owen was the only batsman to make double figures after hitting 59 before being bowled by James Iago (2-28). Waller took 4-10 and Mark Stewart 2-28.

Findon made no mistake in front of a large home crowd against Dinton on Sunday, despite only setting a target of 159-7 off 40 overs.

They had Kingsbury to thank for the victory as he remained unbeaten to make 67 with only opener Graham Waller (25) and O'Sullivan (19) posting significant scores.

Dinton were in control at 56-0 after ten overs in reply thanks to openers Michael Lyons (34) and Richard King (22), but that was as good as it got as the Findon bowlers took over to leave the visitors all out for 109.

John Rogers was the pick of the attack with figures of 4-23 with O'Sullivan (2-8), Mark Stewart (2-31) and Kingsbury (1-7) taking the other wickets.

Findon now meet Shipton-Under-Wychwood from Oxfordshire in the semi-final on August 17 and could face either Astwood Bank from Worcestershire or West Yorkshire side Streethouse in final on September 7.

Waller believes his side have the ability to win an amazing double this season, but admits the cup run is beginning to overshadow the league games.

He said: "It is becoming very exciting now and you can't help but think about it. We are trying not to let the cup dominate but it is hard and I'm sure it is at the back of the minds of most of the players.

"We have a two week break now until the next cup game so we can be fully focused on the league. We don't see any reason why we can't do well in both competitions."

Arundel went down to their first defeat of the season after Goring pulled off a surprise two-wicket win. Despite the loss, Arundel got 14 points which keeps their narrow lead at the top intact.

After being inserted, Arundel looked in control when Richard Thompson hit 97 to help them post 209-5. But it was not enough as Goring ran riot in reply to reach 213-8 in 44 overs. Paul Davis was the tormentor-in-chief with 67 and Graham Cornish rounded off a superb display with an unbeaten 48.

Bottom side Clymping had the better of a draw against Pagham, picking up 12 vital points.

Division one leaders Pulborough continued their winning streak to go 55 points clear at the top but they were made to work hard for the one wicket victory by bottom side Eastergate.

Despite a massive 207 points separating the two clubs, strugglers Eastergate managed to post 183-7 thanks to a gutsy 49 from Alex Robinson.

Clint Astridge (51) got Pulborough going before Ashley Clark hit 55 not out to guide the table-toppers to 187-9 with just one ball to spare. Stuart Cameron was the most successful bowler with 4-58.

Second placed Southwick remain outsiders for the title following a three wicket away win at Scaynes Hill. The home side were skittled out for 133 thanks to tight bowling by Steve Martin (4-20), before Southwick made 134-7 inside 40 overs to seal the win.

Will Gooda hit 53 to help Billingshurst post 232-7, but it was only good enough for a home draw against a stubborn Crawley.

Hayden James did his best to inspire a Crawley collapse with 5-21, but the visitors stayed head-strong to reach 146-9 off 41 overs.

Ansty had to settle for a draw at home to Barns Green after posting 212-6. Paul Osborn hit a career best 54 and there were useful contributions from Stuart Wheeler (38), Andy Hadfield (37 not out) and Dave Croydon (28). But durable stands by Green opener Nick Woodward (50) and Phil Awcock (42 not out) helped the visitors to 148-7 to leave honours even. James Robinson took 3-61 for Ansty.
