Steve Bullimore got his Supertwins title challenge back on track with a first and a second in the latest round of the BEMSEE Nationwide series at Snetterton.

The Haywards Heath race ace extended his lead in the championship to 46 points over Brian Giles after a dominant display.

With four more rounds to go, starting on the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch next weekend, Bullimore is determined to maintain his good form.

He said: "It was an excellent weekend for me and it couldn't have come at a better time.

"I was starting to have a run of poorer results and Brian has been catching me fast.

"However, now I have my brakes sorted out, my bike is running a bit better and I feel I am able to ride like I did in the first half of the season."

Bullimore found himself with some extra competition at Snetterton. With an MRO round at the circuit on Sunday there were a few Mille Challenge riders in the field including the rapid Darren Jones.

Craig Barker, another who does not normally take part in the BEMSEE series, was also in action.

Bullimore lined up his Aprilia RSV on pole position but soon found himself behind Ed Allingham, who got another of his excellent starts.

However, the Sussex man took the lead at the next corner and never looked back on his to victory, crossing the line a mighty six seconds ahead of Barker.

Bullimore said: "After about three laps of leading the race I started to wonder when Brian would appear.

"Twice I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye down the straight abut I was just seeing things.

"After another three laps of leading I realised I might be able to win. I've never won at Snetterton before.

"The last lap flag came out and I was dying to have a look behind me but resisted the temptation and just tried to be good on the brakes for the last lap in case he was there."

With valuable championship points already in the bag Bullimore was looking to out-gun Giles in the second race as well.

A bad start saw him sixth out of the first corner but he fought his way through the field to finish second behind Barker on his rapid Ducati 999 Corse. Jones was third with Giles back in fourth place.

Bullimore now has 504 points with Giles in second place in the championship on 458. Alan Witt is third but a huge 151 points behind Bullimore and Allingham is a further 72 points back in fourth place.

Crawley's Dave Lodge has slipped to sixth in the series. He finished a disappointing 15th in race one but showed improvement to come ninth in the second race.

In the Powerbike class, Luke Palmer from Plumpton Green had a good day, finishing eighth in the first race on his Yamaha R1 and seventh in the second race.

Brighton's Kenny Everest, warming up for the following day's MRO meeting, finished 20th in the second Powerbike race and 11th in the Ace of Clubs showdown.

In the Supersport 600 class, Peacehaven's Kevin Stone finished 25th in the first race but improved to come 18th in the second.

Crawley's Juliet Manning came 19th in both Supersport 400 races on her Kawasaki ZXR while Craig Kelly, from Sompting, was 13th in the opening Rookie 400 race.
