Sussex athletes have their sights set on securing places in next month's World Championships.
The AAA Championships this weekend in Birmingham double up as trials for the World Championships in Paris next month.
So far, only Nick Buckfield, from Crawley, has achieved the necessary qualifying standard.
He will need to finish in the first two places to make sure of automatic selection.
Commonwealth Games hammer champion Mick Jones will need to break the British record by two metres to achieve the standard of 79.50m. The selectors, however, do have the power to nominate just one athlete per event, providing they have achieved a B standard.
In Jones' case, that is 76.40m and would be a lifetime best.
There are hopes Sean Baldock will make the 400m team.
He is still one second adrift but knows six or maybe more athletes will be selected for the 4x400m relay.
Crawley's Joel Kidger will be disappointed if he does not make the final of the 800m but he needs to set a personal best to crack the standard.
