An exhibition of proposed traffic calming measures for Angmering will take place this week.

The proposed slowdown of traffic through the village centre follows the opening of the £4 million Angmering bypass in February.

The new road has diverted much of the heavy traffic which used to pass through the village but cars and lorries appear to be going faster along the old route.

Tex Pemberton, West Sussex County Council Cabinet member for strategic environmental services, said: "When I opened the bypass, I said the next important step in Angmering would be to consider traffic management in the parish and I have kept my word about that.

"I hope as many people as possible will visit this important exhibition as feedback from residents is important.

"The proposed scheme has been agreed during an initial consultation involving the police and the parish council.

"However, nothing is set in stone and this exhibition is part of a much wider consultation to consider what, if any, changes may be needed."

The exhibition will include details of a 20mph zone in the centre of the village, footway widening on the east side of Station Road, priority give-way features in Station Road, Arundel Road and Water Lane, a new one-way northbound section at the northern end of Dappers Lane and possible parking changes.

Mr Pemberton said: "People visiting the exhibition will be invited to use a comments book to let us know what they think about the traffic management proposals."

Detailed design work will start with a view to work beginning in the early part of next year.

The exhibition will take place at Angmering Village Hall on Friday between 2pm and 8pm and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
