A man whose brother died in a boating accident is pushing ahead with plans for a day-long festival to highlight the sea safety message.

Cliff Langan was at the helm of a boat which accidentally speared into the side of his brother's vessel, Ian Langan, off Brighton Marina last year.

He is planning an inaugural Sea Safety Awareness Day on August 3, the day before the first anniversary of Ian's death.

It is hoped several safety organisations will have displays at the marina on the day, as well as providing music, entertainment and fireworks.

Mr Langan is particularly concerned to spread the message that people should always wear lifejackets, although that would not have made a difference in his brother's accident.

Cliff, who lives at the marina, was questioned by police following the fatal crash but no action was taken against him.

Last week he lent his support to a campaign called Better Things Happen At Sea, launched by Premier Marinas, the Brighton Marina Company and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
