Parishioners gathered to welcome a new vicar to the parish of St Mary and St Laurence in Goring-by-Sea.
The Reverend Andrew Tremlett, 39, was installed by the Bishop of Horsham, the Right Reverend Lindsay Unwin, at an evening ceremony on May 7.
He was joined by representatives from local councils and schools, including Mayor of Worthing Eric Mardell.
Mr Tremlett said: "It was a great celebration and a great welcome."
Mr Tremlett served as chaplain to the Bishop of Portsmouth for five years and is relishing his new role, which began officially last week.
He said: "I have worked in Torquay, Rotterdam and Portsmouth so I am used to living by the sea. It is a bit of a recurring theme."
