Invitation League: Pagham captain Craig Primmer aims to go one better than last season's second place after inspiring his side to a 94-run home win over champions Findon.

A knock of 68 by David Lever set the hosts on their way to 210-7 before Primmer (5-57) got to work with the ball and the champions were dismissed for 116.

A maximum 30 points was a welcome boost for Pagham who made a disappointing start to the season last week when selection problems left them with only nine men and a three- wicket defeat by Lindfield.

Despite a stuttering start, Primmer believes his side have what it takes to win the league.

He said: "It was a very important win for us, especially after the first week.

"We were so disappointed and we knew we had to win, not only to cancel out last week's defeat, but also because it was against Findon.

"I think getting maximum points from them could be crucial come the end of the season.

"Our aim is to win the title this year because last time we threw it away. We kept losing against teams we shouldn't have and we are determined not to do that again."

Arundel are the early season leaders after they eased to a 114- run home win over Lindfield, thanks to some inspired bowling by captain Steve Mullen. He claimed an incredible 8-21 to leave the hapless visitors all out for 91.

Solid innings by Ryan Chitty (43) and Steve Rishman (51 not out) sealed maximum points as the home side set a target of 205-6. Only Lindfield off-spinner Steve Pearce, who claimed four wickets, caused any problems.

Lindfield skipper Graham Page was disappointed with the defeat but quick to pay tribute to Mullen.

He said: "When someone bowls as well as that, you cannot be too hard on yourselves and you just have to hold your hands up to it.

"Some of our guys were saying he was the quickest they have faced in two years, so it was always going to be difficult."

Arundel finished third last season but Page believes they are an outside bet for the title this time.

He said: "They are definitely going to be there or there abouts. Findon walked away with it last season but this time I think it is going to be much closer and Arundel are going to push them all the way."

Clymping captain Karl Pierce is expecting a tough season, despite seeing his side brush past Burgess Hill with a 133-run home win.

Gareth Challen (36) and Roger Green helped the hosts on their way to 206, before superb bowling from Richard Waddington (6-22) left the visitors all out fon 73.

Despite victory, Pierce is remaining realistic after last season's top run-maker Benn Challen left for Littlehampton in the summer.

He said: "A few players have left, including Benn, so the rest of the lads know we could struggle this year.

"This result was very encouraging and we are just going to have to dig in and get the results, which I'm sure we will do because there is a great spirit in the team."

Broadwater swept Ifield aside to claim their first win in the top flight since being promoted as Division Two champions last season.

They raced past Ifield's target of 167-9 in just under 40 overs, thanks to half-centuries by Steve Collins (51) and Richard Iago (57) to post 171-5 and claim 24 league points.

Ansty continued their good start to the division two campaign with a comfortable nine-wicket away win over Crawley.

Simon Parsons starred with the ball to leave Crawley all out for 164.

He was involved in every wicket to fall, first claiming 6-52 with some inspired bowling, then holding three catches.

Parsons was also turning his arm when Ansty vice-captain James Robinson produced a direct hit from the boundary. Chris Nutter (2-27) chipped in to restrict the home side, whose only threat came from Fallah Udin with 76.

Richard Nicholls took the plaudits in the Ansty reply with an unbeaten 117 off 103 balls, including 16 fours and five sixes to ease the visitors to 165-1.

Paul Osborn (19 not out) and David Croydon (15) also had cameo knocks.

Last season's Division Three champions Scaynes Hill claimed their first win since being promoted by easing past Barns Green by nine wickets.

A solid 45 by Nick Woodward was not enough for Green, who were skittled for 185. Hill then went on to post 190-1, thanks to a superb unbeaten 114 by opening batsman Tim Jeavons.

Another promoted side, Billingshurst, held on to a draw away to Southwick, who were playing division one cricket last year.

Nick King (48) and Jim Downey (60) put the home side in the driving seat, despite the efforts of visiting bowler Pete Burroughs (73-5), as they finished on 209-9.

An unbeaten 58 by Will Gooda, however, ensured a share of the spoils as the visitors finished on 119-8. Paul Brennan had most success with the ball for Southwick with 4-69.

A stubborn 84 by opener Clint Astridge helped Pulborough on their way to a 79-run home win against Keymer and Hassocks.

Astridge was well supported by Jody Healy, who hit 75, as the hosts finished on 214-3.

The total proved too much for the visitors as they were left all out for 135 with only John Carr (46) causing the home attack problems. Nathan Kerridge picked up 4-11 and Ashley Clark also had success with 4-29.
