Three men were being quizzed by police today in connection with robberies at two East Sussex off licences.

The men, all in their 20s, were arrested by officers after they stormed a four-storey building in Susans Road, Eastbourne, yesterday afternoon.

Dozens of bystanders looked on as officers in stab-proof vests entered flats above an empty furniture store at the junction with Seaside Road.

All three were arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery. One relates to a knifepoint robbery at the Drink's Cabin on the A259 in Pevensey Bay yesterday afternoon.

A small amount of money and a mobile phone card were taken in the raid which happened at around 1.15pm.

The other relates to a robbery on Sunday at Thresher's off licence on Polegate High Street when the till was emptied of cash.

Six people were also arrested in the same raid on suspicion of handling stolen goods but all were released without charge.
