So, once again, residents of Woodingdean have to wait for action on the redevelopment of the Sunblest-Jaycee site at the junction of Falmer Road and Bexhill Road.

Some of the reasons for deferring the recent planning application decision were very difficult to believe - for instance, "the roofing could be green to merge with surrounding downland" and "we are looking for clean, good design".

Fortunately, perhaps, for Brighton and Hove residents is the fact our council has just become a little Greener, in keeping with the roof designs now required.

In reality, there are now more Green councillors than there are green roofs in the whole of Woodingdean.

As for clean, good design, this site - which for years has looked like Sheepcote Valley amenity site overflow - looks cleaner when it is occupied by travellers.

In addition to the deferment on the basis of design for the Jaycee portion of this site, Brighton and Hove City Council still has in place restrictions for development of the Sunblest area by insisting it must be developed for high-technology R&D.

Since when has Woodingdean been situated in the Thames Valley or Cambridge area, where this hi-tech industry locates?

And look again at the Exion Building in Hollingbury, which has the same restriction and has stood empty for almost as long as the Woodingdean site has been an eyesore.

Come on, planners, time for a rethink. Woodingdean has waited long enough.
