A Chelsea fan has successfully appealed against a three-month jail sentence for assaulting a female anti-war demonstrator on the day his team lost to West Ham.
Adrian Howard, 42, of Britannia Court, Brighton Marina, won an appeal against his sentence, which was reduced to a 150-hour community punishment order, after serving six days in jail.
The court heard he assaulted female revenue protection officer Teresa Galligan at Victoria station as she returned from an anti-war march in London.
Howard was drinking with friends in a pub in Victoria station after Chelsea lost to West Ham while the victim was waiting for a train back to her home in Eastbourne.
An argument broke out between the two, who did not previously know each other, which led to Howard being arrested and charged with the offences.
The football fan, who runs a building and roofing company in Brighton, appeared at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court charged with common assault and threatening behaviour.
He denied the charges but was found guilty of common assault.
