Chris Adams has admitted his side threw it away with the ball as they completed a blank holiday weekend.

The skipper hit his first century of the season but the Sharks still lost by four wickets to Northants at Hove yesterday.

While the runs started flowing, the bowlers lost the touch which had seen them trouble Hampshire on Sunday.

Now the skipper has called on both units to pull their weight when Sussex return to the Rose Bowl tomorrow in the C&G Trophy.

He said: "We just can't get it right. We keep trying but the key to one-day cricket is getting as many players in form and performing all at the same time.

"That hasn't happened. When the batters perform the bowlers don't deliver or the other way around.

"We batted hard. So often we have collapsed but to post a score was pleasing.

"I thought 217 was comfortably enough and, if we are honest with ourselves, had we bowled anything like we should, we would have won comfortably.

"We will be up for the Hampshire game, no fears about that, but it would be nice to get all 11 performing at the same time."
