It's not just singing to plants that helps them grow. Pianist Ronnie Saville has been tinkling the ivories to help flowers bloom at a Sussex garden centre.
The potted plants in the caf at Garden Pride in Ditchling have flourished since Ronnie took up residence ten weeks ago.
The retired businessman, who has performed on the QE2 and has a weekly slot at the Grand Hotel in Brighton, plays three days a week at lunchtime.
Customers taking a break from stocking up their gardens can sip a cuppa to classics like As Time Goes By, Unforgettable and It Had To Be You.
Centre manager David Jermyn said: "After extending the coffee shop we thought it would be quite fun to have some music while people ate or had a cup of tea.
"The plants in the coffee shop are doing particularly well, so maybe it's true what they say about singing to flowers."
Ronnie said: "Now that I'm retired I don't want to let the grass grow under my feet.
"I'm just an amateur really, but it helps supplement my pension and keeps me busy."
