Members of the public need to be concerned about the number of experienced officers leaving the Sussex Force (The Argus, April 17).

As 72 officers have now left the Force, this has caused a brain drain within the Sussex police.

There is no sign that this is coming to an end as experienced officers will always prefer to transfer to the Metropolitan Police in London.

However, it is not all doom as there are transferees and there are 500 new officers in training as probationers.

It is with confidence I think these officers will become good officers when their training ends.

But to keep good, experienced police officers in Sussex, the county must offer competitive terms and conditions for them to stay.

I am pleased to read attempts are being made to do this.
