Set on the outskirts of sleepy Rye and a stone's throw away from the sea, Camber Sands hosts the second annual Kerrang! Weekender.

The mini-music festival gives fans of all things heavy and loud the chance to shake their manes to some of the best rock around.

With headlining acts such as Amen, rock sensations Glassjaw and grunge youngsters InMe, plus other acts, it is the musical event for rock action and debauchery.

The music is the main attraction but there are other bizarre events to indulge in, from toilet racing to extreme sports and celebrity five-a-side football to heavy metal karaoke.

If that isn't enough, every chalet comes equipped with a television set broadcasting rock-based films, documentaries and live performances.

The weekender is residential and all accommodation is in four to eight-person chalets.

All performances take place in two indoor halls, which eradicates the chance of bad weather.

With moderately-sized stages, the weekender also gives fans the chance to see their favourite bands in a venue far smaller than they would normally play in.

The event opens at 1pm today and performances start at about 3pm. DJs include Radio One's Mike Davis and Skunk Anansie's Ace will follow the bands until the small hours.

Tickets are £89 per person plus booking fee, though chalets can only be booked in groups of four to eight so a four-person chalet would cost £356 plus the booking fee. Tickets must be booked in advance.

Parking facilities are severely limited. The best way is to travel by train to Rye and take a shuttlebus service to the holiday centre, which costs £1.50.

Tickets are available on the Kerrang! hotline on 08707 460123. Buyers must be over 18 as ID will be required to obtain chalet keys.
