Brighton and Chichester are looking to cause upsets in the semi-finals of the Sussex Cup tomorrow.

National League sides provide the opposition with East Grinstead away to Brighton and Lewes playing host to Chichester.

This is the first time in a number of years that National League clubs have been allowed to partake in the Sussex Cup but victory will not be a formality for either side.

Brighton host East Grinstead having won the Kent/Sussex Regional League while Chichester believe they have a genuine chance against a Lewes side who have struggled for much of the season.

Gareth Lendrum has gone travelling but Brighton will otherwise be at full strength.

Skipper Carlo Missirian said: "The priority has been the league. We played the quarter-final so early in the season that the cup has been put to the back of the mind.

"But people have been thinking about it a bit, more so since we won the league. Now we are really looking forward to facing if not the best then one of the best teams in Sussex.

"It is a benchmark for us. I am sure we will play well and give them a good game but we must remember they are three leagues above us."

East Grinstead have named England under-16 player Ashley Stephen-Jackson in their squad for the game.

The teenager is not registered to play in the National League but impressed as the seconds clinched the 2nd XI South Premier Division championship last Saturday.

Player-coach Ian Pattison said: "Ashley played for the seconds last week and was probably the best player on the pitch.

"We will certainly not be taking it lightly. We will be very much up for this game."

Richard Payne is unavailable and Duncan Howarth is also ruled out although he will return when Grinstead complete their National League programme against Havant on Sunday.

Chichester will be without centre half Sam Beere who broke an ankle against Fareham last week. Player-coach Neil Pendle will drop back into defence to cover for Beere.

Richard Juniper and Clive Dunn have long-term knee injuries and will only take a minor part in the game but Short corner specialist Peter Turner is fit again after a leg injury that sidelined him for eight weeks.

Lewes will give a debut to Sean Parker, a South African midfielder or defender who has been introduced in the second team recently.

Parker is not eligible for league action and will drop out when Lewes host Peterborough in division two on Sunday. Matt Lloyd and Tim Garner miss the league game as they are working but both return on Sunday.

Skipper Will Champness said: "Our focus over the weekend is to try to win against Chichester and then think about Sunday after that.

"They aren't a bad side and will be keen to beat us. They will be motivated and we will have to be aware of that."

Meanwhile, Horsham complete their Kent/Sussex Regional League campaign without three players away to Maidstone.

Player of the Year Andy Hartley is unavailable along with Simon Jones and Mark Newsom. Russell Hartley has been called up from the seconds.

In Kent/Sussex division one Crawley and South Saxons both play for their league survival. Saxons, currently in the drop zone, visit Burnt Ash while third from bottom Crawley host Crowborough.
