Horsham all but secured their place in the Kent/Sussex Regional League for next season with a 2-1 win away to fellow strugglers Old Williamsonians.

The number of teams relegated is never certain until the end of the season but a third from bottom finish is almost certain to keep them up.

As many as three teams could be relegated but it appears a maximum of only two will now go down, which will be Old Williamsonians and Gillingham Anchorians.

Horsham goalkeeper Neil Burlinson said: "One certainly goes down. It depends on teams coming down from the league above but it looks like that could only be Tulse Hill to affect us.

"It looks like only two teams will go down. As we are six points clear of Anchorians with a much better goal difference we should be safe."

Horsham, who still have to play Anchorians and Maidstone, could even move above fourth from bottom Herne Bay.

Saturday's win stretched their recent run to three wins and a draw from their last four games and it also relegated Old Williamsonians in the process.

The hosts took the lead early in the second half following a mix-up in defence but Stuart Donaldson deflected in a Richard Lowe shot and then skipper Lowe scored eight minutes from time to secure victory.

It was always going to be a tough season for Horsham, as the team was decimated last summer.

Burlinson said: "With Robbie Ashton leaving during the season that meant we had lost a total of ten players.

"When you lose a lot of good players and effectively replace them with second team players, to stay up is an achievement."
