Brighton turned on the style against Maidstone before being presented with the Kent/Sussex Regional League championship trophy.

A tremendous second-half display saw the Kent visitors swept aside 4-1.

The title had been secured with a 1-0 success at Worthing the previous week but skipper Carlo Missirian insisted it was important to win this match.

Missirian, who collected the trophy from league secretary Adrian Kearney after the game, said: "It would have been an anticlimax if we had lost or not played well but the second-half display was awesome.

"Playing so well against one of the best teams in the league and to get the trophy made it a great day for the club."

Kevin Brown opened the scoring by netting Brighton's 100th league goal of the season.

Further efforts followed from Paul Watson, Pietro Attala and Richard Cooke in an emphatic triumph.
