Withdean have revealed they are in talks with council chiefs about playing more games at Withdean Stadium next season.

The Combined Counties League club have an arrangement to play six games at their old home during the current campaign.

Now they are trying to get more for next year which may help them avert the type of fixture crisis they are facing at the moment.

Withdean still have 22 league games, a cup semi final and a potential cup final to fit in before the season officially closes on May 17.

Thirteen of those league games are at Woodside Road which they share with Worthing and Albion Reserves. That means another 26 games have to be staged at Woodside Road in the next eight weeks.

Chief executive Alan Pook said: "We have had a limited league programme at Withdean Stadim this year and we are currently negotiating with regards to more games next year."

Withdean have played as many as 12 games less than some other teams in the Combined Counties but Pook is confident the fixture backlog will not harm their championship chances.

He said: "A lot of people are saying we have too much to do but we are looking forward to the challenge.

"Any team that is successful always has a backlog of fixtures at the end of the season.

"At Peacehaven many years ago I had 24 league games and two cup finals to fit into the last six weeks of the season. We lost one game but won the rest including both cup finals. I have been here before."

Pook revealed six other Sussex sides have offered their ground to Withdean as an alternative if Woodside Road is unable to stage all their remaining games.

Withdean entertain North Greenford tomorrow and Walton Casuals next Wednesday and they are also trying to rearrange a home game for Monday evening
