As a new resident to Holland Road in the Goldsmid area of Hove, it came as an unpleasant surprise to discover the parking scheme about to come into effect, especially as the previous lack of restrictions was a primary reason for moving into the area.

I have come across no one who is in favour of the scheme so I find it difficult to believe it is "in response to requests made by local residents".

The cynic in me would say this is yet another ploy by Brighton and Hove City Council to make a fast penny.

While I appreciate the area needs better policing of people parking on double yellow lines, I have never been unable to find a parking space so am decidedly dubious about the scheme's need.

I live in a flat of three people. There is a maximum of one parking permit allocated to each household.

Practically, where are my other flatmates supposed to park? Why are most restrictions in the area until 8pm in the evening? This makes it unnecessarily difficult for the residents who do not have a permit to park.

Finally, if the goal is to deter people from living in Brighton and Hove, the council is going about it the right way.
