Two police forces are rallying to support a mother-of-four left struggling after her PC partner was killed in a car crash.

Fund-raising events are planned and stars including DJ Fatboy Slim have been invited to lend their support.

PC Tok Ezobi, 25, was uninsured and had stopped paying his police pension at the time of the crash on New Year's Day.

He pulled out of the scheme temporarily so he and his family could afford a bigger house.

PC Ezobi switched from Sussex to the Metropolitan Police last summer and both forces are helping his partner Wendy and her four children, who live in Buckley Close, Hangleton, Hove.

Sussex officers raised £1,700 in a collection and London colleagues are planning a fund-raising ball this summer.

PC Andy Buckley, helping organising the event, said: "I have written to businesses in Brighton and Hove as well as in London asking if they would donate services or gifts that could be used as raffle prizes.

"I have cheekily asked Fatboy Slim if he would do a small gig on the night."

PC Buckley is planning to ask other stars in Sussex to lend their support.

Miss Ezobi was planning to use some of the donated money for mortgage payments but she may divert some of the cash to finance legal action.

She is planning to go to court for the right to put her partner's name on their newborn daughter India's birth certificate, an action that could cost £2,000.

The law states "Father Unknown" must be written when couples are not married and the father cannot be present to sign the certificate.

Sussex Police chaplain Father Stephen Terry, who conducted PC Ezobi's funeral service in January, said he was shocked when he read of the legal restriction on Friday.

He said the rule flew in the face of common sense and natural justice.
