Parents are vowing to take their children out of a nursery in Hove if a mobile phone mast is put on the building.

One mother said her four-year-old son was likely to miss six months of nursery education because she was not prepared to risk his health.

Zoe Fitzgerald, 20, said her son Lewis would be unlikely to find anywhere else before he goes to infant school in the autumn.

She also has to find somewhere new for her two-year-old daughter Sophie.

Miss Fitzgerald said she was angry she only found out about the proposed scheme at Regent House, Western Road, Hove, from a fellow parent.

She said: "One of the mothers sent lots of letters to parents of the children about the mast.

"It's going up at the end of April. I'm worried for my children's health because no one knows what harm radiation can cause to children.

"I live about half-an-hour's bus ride from the nursery and Regent House is the best.

"The only other one they run is even further, at Dyke Road, so I'll have to find somewhere else for my daughter."

The nursery, which is based above the Litten Tree public house, looks after 66 children.

Nobody from the nursery was able to comment - although staff confirmed a number of parents had withdrawn their children or planned to when the mast was installed.

One member said the first they heard about it was the parent's letter. They had heard nothing from Brighton and Hove City Council or the phone company.

A spokeswoman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: "Planning permission was granted on January 16 for the Regent House mobile mast."

She said she would be looking into the matter.
