Brighton all but secured the Kent/Sussex Regional League title with a 4-2 win at home to Blackheath.

One more point will confirm the championship for Brighton, who visit Worthing on Saturday.

Second-placed Tunbridge Wells can catch Brighton on points but must also make up a goal difference of 44, which is 14 more than the champions elect have conceded all season.

Skipper Carlo Missirian insists celebrations will not begin until the title is confirmed.

He said: "That was a big win for us but we can't afford to lose concentration now. We have worked too hard for the last three years to start thinking it is already won.

"Since losing to Tunbridge Wells we set ourselves a target of nine points from the next three games and we have achieved that."

Brighton led 2-0 at half-time on Saturday thanks to Richard Cooke and Pietro Attala, who scored a wonderful individual goal from open play.

After the interval Blackheath capitalised on some unforced errors to score twice from short corners but Brighton regained the lead thanks to Paul Watson's tap-in.

Victory was sealed by Missirian with a deflection through his own legs from Craig Carolan's pass into the D. The style of the goal but only matched by the skipper's Elvis Pressley-style celebration.

Missirian joked: "I don't know what I was doing up there in the first place. I must have been possessed by the King!"

Horsham's survival battle got another boost as they won 2-0 at Herne Bay to complete back-to-back victories.

Andy Down scored twice for Horsham, who kept their first clean sheet of the season.

Worthing suffered a surprise 4-3 defeat at struggling Gillingham Anchorians. The visitors found themselves 4-0 down inside 25 minutes but fought back with goals from Matt Ansell (two) and Ahmed Sheikh Ramiz.

With no substitutes, Worthing were effectively reduced to ten men when skipper David Edmondson was injured in the second half. Jamie Luke made an impressive debut at the back.

Mid Sussex drew 0-0 away to Sevenoaks.
