Implementing the "three Rs" - reduce, re-use and recycle - is crucial in decreasing the waste mountain. Many people are doing just that and need help, such as doorstep collections and the provision of marked bags and tags for separating their rubbish.
Reduction at source is the key to minimising waste but will the creators of unnecessary packaging comply? In a local supermarket a while ago, the usual set of four creme caramel cartons disappeared from the shelves, only to reappear bound in promotional packaging.
Despite repeating that this unsustainable practice was adding to landfill and requesting removal of the packaging in future, to date the packaging remains.
