Worthing responded to their coach's demand for greater commitment and it saw them go back to the top of the table.

Now they need a win at Wimbledon next Saturday to stay there ahead of Gosport and Fareham, who have a game in hand.

Worthing scored five second-half tries with the breeze at their backs to see off Maidstone 42-5 in London Two South.

Simon Swadling touched down and kicked two conversions and two penalties for a 15-point haul.

Ben Coulson scored two tries and added a conversion with Paul Todd and Terry Butler also crossing.

Back row man Dave Davis grabbed the first half try while centre Mark Adams was outstanding.

Davies said: "It was much better. The forwards provided a lot of quick ball and the backs looked dangerous.

"Maidstone play Gosport next Saturday so the result there will put our win into some kind of perspective."

Haywards Heath could have gone top of London One on points difference with a big win at Sutton and Epsom.

They did not make it but were delighted with a 24-7 success which leaves them poised to overhaul leaders Southend when they play their game in hand.

Lock Damien Lyall was outstanding and played a big role as Heath scored in the second minute of both halves.

He made the break which set up an early score for Henry Goodburn, then powered away from a ruck for a superb solo try.

Andy Cook expertly drew the defence to send Goodburn in for his second and Owen Ashton rounded it off late on with a try to add to his two conversions.

Heath took the chance to give Jamie O'Brien an outing as replacement full back on his first return to the club he left last summer.

Goodburn said: "This was always going to be one of the more difficult games in the run-in because we had never won there before.

"The only time they really dangerous is when they came at us through the middle but we showed we were the better team. It was a good win there because they were fourth before play."
