Brighton got their promotion campaign back on track with a 5-3 win over Old Williamsonians in the Kent/Sussex Regional League.

Having suffered their first defeat of the season to title rivals Tunbridge Wells the previous week, Brighton desperately needed a positive result.

Player-coach Craig Carolan ensured that with a four-goal blast to take his tally to 42 goals in 16 league appearances since joining the club last summer. Brighton were made to work hard for their win against the league's bottom side. Richard Cooke cancelled out the Kent's side early opener and goalkeeper Pete Ashdown made excellent saves at both 2-1 and 4-3.

Skipper Carlo Missirian said: "I was disappointed to let in three goals but really pleased to get the three points.

"In the past we have worried too much about other people. Now we are just concentrating on getting the points."

Brighton need three wins from their last five games to be guaranteed the title.

Tunbridge Wells kept up the pressure with a 6-3 win at home to Worthing Worthing led 2-1 at one stage thanks to two goals from the outstanding Ramiz Inga.

A horror 15 minutes saw the Kent side lead 5-2 at half time. John Massie fired Worthing back into the game in the second half and there were further chances for skipper David Edmondson and Dan Lock before Wells made sure of the points with a sixth goal.

Edmondson said: "Tunbridge Wells have arguably the tightest defence in this league so to put seven goals past them this season is a good achievement."

Mid Sussex won 2-1 at home to Horsham. James Goodwin set up Mark Humphreys for the opener in a scrappy match, then Luke Hurle finished well from a rebounded short corner.

Skipper Richard Lowe hit a late consolation for Horsham who remain embroiled in a relegation battle.
