Chichester slipped to third from bottom in South Premier division one after losing 2-1 at home to Wimbledon.

Defending an unbeaten home record, Chi never looked like winning.

Johnny Gotham made his debut in goal and was kept busy throughout.

Chichester went behind early in the first half. Richard Juniper gave them hope with a composed finish to make it 1-1 at half time but the visitors scored again in the second half to take maximum points.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's 1988 Olympic gold medal winning team turned back the clock with a vintage display at East Grinstead on Sunday.

Fifteen years after they had beaten Germany 3-1 to win gold in Seoul, the British team were reunited to mark the official opening of East Grinstead's impressive new water-based pitch.

A crowd of more than 450 saw the likes of Sean Kerly, Richard Leman and Imran Sherwani win 5-4 against Holland's 1992 Olympic squad.

Sherwani scored two fabulous goals in the second half as Great Britain fought back from 2-1 down at half time. He also set up the first of two goals for Don Williams.

The new facility at Saint Hill, which also includes a fitness suite, physio treatment room, jogging track, changing facilities and improved office accommodation, has been financed by a Sport England lottery grant of £1million towards the total cost of £1.7million.

It is the culmination of a five-year plan after East Grinstead was chosen to be the English Hockey Association's academy for the South East.

Leman, who scored Great Britain's first goal, is now chairman of East Grinstead Sports and Social Club, which encompasses the hockey club. He said: "We can take great pride in the facility we have and it will stand the club in good stead for many years to come."

Mike Corby, president of English Hockey, said he would now be pushing for internationals to be staged at East Grinstead.
