Sussex's three-pronged promotion push in division one south was badly hit last night as Lewes, Horsham and Bognor all failed to win.

Lewes came from behind to secure their second consecutive league draw this time at home to Whyteleafe The first 45 minutes were dominated by Whyteleafe, who seemed to have more desire than a lethargic looking Rooks outfit and deservedly led at the break.

The goal came in the 19th minute when a free kick on the right from Stuart Massey was headed in by Nigel Golley.

Lewes's cause was not helped two minutes into the second period when skipper Marc Cable was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

However they equalised on 68 minutes after Ross Venables headed a loose ball back into the area and Gareth Green hooked it past goalkeeper Danny Rose.

Three minutes later Venables was brought down in the area by Ali Reeve, who was shown a red card, but Julian Curnow's penalty was saved by Rose.

Horsham could only draw 1-1 at rock bottom Chertsey, despite going ahead on 51 minutes when Gavin Geddes centred and David Flemming knocked in from close range.

Chertsey equalised almost immediately when Dwayen Ackerman was given time and space to stroll down the middle and fire past Ian Chatfield from 20 yards.

They should have sealed the points in injury time when John Pomroy was played clean through and only a spectacular diving save from Ian Chatfield saved Horsham's blushes.

Hornets were left to reflect on four first half chances when their forwards were played through on goal.

Geddes wasted a golden opportunity when he headed Rob Collins' right-wing cross over the bar from close range in the 22nd minute.

Bognor crashed 4-0 at Tooting and Mitcham, though they had the better of the early chances and Matt Russell was denied by Tony Webb.

David Stevens could have done better as he attempted to chip Webb from outside the box but was denied by the keeper.

Tooting took the lead in the 29th minute when a clearance was picked up by James Husband who advanced before rifling a low shot into the far corner.

Either side could have increased the scores, with Bognor's Kevin Murphy rattling the top of the bar with a header.

Second half substitute Youness Nabil increased the lead when he out muscled Murphy before blasting in a low shot.

Elliot Onochie added two more, the second a last gasp penalty.
