I read with incredulity it is likely a large proportion of South Central Trains' new rolling stock may be delayed in being brought into service because there is insufficient power in the rail network (January 23).

Who had the responsibility to ensure the proposed new trains were compatible with the existing systems? Should such considerations not automatically be part of the ordering process?

If it was South Central Trains who did not make sufficient inquiries, any financial loss should be down to that company.

Alternatively, if the company had assurances from another party there would be sufficient power, South Central must have a claim against that party for providing incorrect information.

If the Strategic Rail Authority is at fault, it seems inevitable the financial burden will fall on the taxpayer.

However, as a minimum, the individuals responsible should have their employment contracts terminated because they are obviously incapable of carrying out their duties with sufficient diligence.
