A taxi driver threw a woman out of a cab before driving over her foot because of an argument over a fare, a court heard.

Hayley Tullett was dragged screaming along Hallett Road, Brighton, losing seven layers of skin on her right foot, Hove Crown Court was told.

Driver Mahmood Mirzadeh then pulled her from the vehicle and she fell to the floor.

He drove on to her foot, got out of the car to look, reversed and drove over her foot again, leaving tyre marks, the jury heard.

Mirzadeh, 50, of Court Farm Road, Hove, denies assault causing actual bodily harm and dangerous driving.

Mrs Tullett said the incident happened on May 25 last year.

She described the incident as "petrifying" and said her foot was fractured, bruised and badly swollen.

Tim Bergin, prosecuting, said Mirzadeh admitted driving Mrs Tullett home that day but denied causing an injury.

He said: "He was unable to explain how Mrs Tullett sustained these injuries."

Richard Wormwold, defending, said he could not have known Mrs Tullett's foot was outside the car when he drove off and he stopped as soon as she called out.

The trial continues.
