Music may get the best of chart star Sophie Ellis-Bextor, but one young fan never guessed he would get the rest of her for a day.

Now adoring Arron Streton, ten, is even more besotted with his pop idol after snatching a kiss from the chart-topping singer.

Although Sophie said her young admirer was lovely, she could have broken his heart when she broke the news she already had a boyfriend, Andy Boyd.

The 23-year-old pop sensation, acclaimed for her hits Murder On The Dance Floor and Music Gets The Best Of Me, was nevertheless flattered when Arron presented her with a rose after meeting her on Southern FM.

His mother Julie, of Waterside Close, Hastings, had written to the radio station to say how much her son doted on the star.

So when she appeared as a guest on Danny Pike and Nicky Keig-Shevlin's morning show yesterday, the presenters invited him to come along.

Arron, a pupil at All Saints Junior School, Hastings, took the opportunity to put some searching questions to his idol live on air, including whether she was married or had a boyfriend.

She had to let him down gently.

Afterwards, he said: "She was really lovely. It was a fantastic day. She is much prettier than I thought.

"She was a lot different from what you think singers would be like. She was very friendly and nice to me."

Sophie was also delighted by her young fan and told listeners his questions were "very good".

Arron's mum said: "He really loves her music and he thinks she is really gorgeous.

"Now having met her in the flesh and seeing how pretty she is in real life, he is absolutely besotted."

Danny said: "It's great to have been able to get Arron to meet his favourite pop star - his face just lit up when he saw her."

Danny and Nicky also took the opportunity to present Sophie with her Southern FM Sussex award for best female artist after she did not arrive at December's ceremony to collect it.

The star explained on air she could not make it because the plane she was travelling on from Glasgow was diverted to Bournemouth because of bad weather.

She said: "I was looking forward to it. I was upset not to be there."

Sophie also said she had seen the collapsed West Pier since arriving in Brighton.

She said: "It just made me think of the happy memories that must have happened there. It is sad but it was inevitable, I guess."

The star is appearing at the Brighton Centre on February 4 as part of her British tour.
