A motorist gave police a false name after being caught drink-driving for the second time in less than three weeks.

But an officer who dealt with David Evans when he was first caught, recognised the face and checked up on him.

Evans, 23, of East Court Road, Worthing, was tested by police after crashing a Renault in Titnore Lane, Worthing, at 5.30am last October 13.

He was taken to Worthing Hospital to be treated for cuts and burns and a blood test showed he was over the legal drink-driving limit.

Evans was stopped again by police at 2.30am on November 1, driving a different car in Southbourne Road, Worthing.

A breath test showed he was again over the limit, but he gave his name as Lee James Evans, and provided a different date of birth.

When interviewed by police and confronted over his true identity, he admitted he made up the second name because he was already facing a charge.

Worthing magistrates yesterday disqualified Evans, who admitted two charges of drink driving, from driving for four years and imposed a community rehabilitation order.

Magistrate Paul Tain said: "In drink-driving terms this is a very serious case. Mr Evans's driving record is appalling."

Evans was also ordered to pay £55 prosecution costs and to take a special long driving test when his ban expired.
